How to get here?

Łutsel K’e is the only community in the Northwest Territories located out on the East Arm of Great Slave Lake. Some people make their way out by boat in the summer or snowmobile in the winter, but the community is only a 45-minute flight from Yellowknife. Scheduled flights go between the community and Yellowknife at least once per day, every day of the week.

Guests typically charter a flight with Air Tindi which is based in the historic Old Town community in Yellowknife. Travelling to Yellowknife can be quick and convenient from most major Canadian cities, with direct flights from Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, and Toronto. It is recommended travellers spend a night in Yellowknife before chartering to either Frontier Lodge or Łutsel K’e, which provides opportunities to experience the culture and sights of the capital city.

Weather in the North

Like most places in Canada, the weather in the North can be pretty variable. Especially in the North, the highs and lows between summer and winter can seem like dramatic changes. But people have been living here for centuries, and modern amenities will ensure your visit is the right balance between comfort and rustically authentic – as long as you are prepared.

On the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, the summers are cool and the winters are frigid and snowy. Summer lasts between late May and September, with the hottest month of the year being July, with an average high of 21 °C and low of 12 °C. Winter lasts from October to March. The coldest month of the year is January, with an average low of -29 °C and high of -22 °C.

Amenities in Łutsël K’é

Łutsël K’é is a remote community with a population of about 300 people. It is the only community out on the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, and the people who live here enjoy a way of life balanced between traditional ways and modern conveniences. To be prepared, you’re encouraged to do most of your shopping in Yellowknife, but the community also provides access to the following amenities:
